		<description>Thanks for this useful supplementary information. I should have made clear that since 31 January 2003 distributors are required to provide an earthing facility for &lt;strong&gt;new&lt;/strong&gt; connections.</description>

		<description>The electricity company is traditionally not obliged to provide an earthing facility. Where it is provided, enquiries should be made to the company to identify the nature of the earth i.e. TNS or TNC-S - there are maximum values to comply with in each case. In some older cases although it may appear to be a TNS termination it may have been converted to TNC-S with internal links.

It is the responsibility of the duty holder, electrical installer, property owner, or the last person to work on the installation to ensure an effective earthing facility. This may require the installation of a TT system, involving the additional requirements and expense as opposed to that required in the case of an electricity company earth.</description>
